First Step: Determine Dependency Status
All applicants for federal student aid are considered as either “Independent” or “Dependent,” which indicates whether parental information is required on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®). Your Student Aid Index (SAI) is not the amount of money you or your family will have to pay for college, nor is it the amount of federal student aid you will receive. It’s a number used by the school to calculate how much financial aid you’re eligible to receive.
To calculate this number, and be able to provide you with an estimate today, I’m going to ask you a few questions related to your dependency status, income, and household information.
